Permanent Resident (PR) Card Services
Canada's Permanent Resident (PR) Card is a crucial step in the immigration process to Canada, granting immigrants the opportunity to experience stable living with permanent status in the country.
The PR Card is an official document issued by the Government of Canada to individuals intending to immigrate permanently to Canada. This card allows individuals to live in Canada indefinitely and enjoy many of the rights and benefits of Canadian citizens, although they are not yet citizens themselves.
To obtain a Canada PR Card, individuals typically need to immigrate through one of the government-approved immigration programs such as the Skilled Worker Program, Family Sponsorship Program, or the United States and Canada Recruitment Program.
Receiving a PR Card comes with numerous benefits, including the right to work and study in Canada, access to public health and education services, employment rights such as retirement and paid leave, family benefits for children and spouses, and the opportunity to apply for Canadian citizenship after a specified period.
For individuals desiring permanent residence and settlement in Canada but not yet seeking citizenship, Canada's PR Card holds significant value and represents a crucial step towards a better and more stable life in Canada.
Permanent Residence Card (PR Card) of Canada expires?
Initially, the Permanent Residence Card (PR Card) of Canada is issued for a period of five years. This card expires after five years. However, the validity period of the Permanent Residence Card can be extended.
After five years, if you still intend to continue living in Canada and your period of presence and activity in Canada is approved by the government, you can apply to renew your Permanent Residence Card. If approved, your Permanent Residence Card will be issued for another five years.
Migrants who leave Canada and plan to stay out of the country for a longer period must ensure that their Permanent Residence Card is not close to expiration, as maintaining permanent resident status means retaining residency points and related rights.
To renew the Permanent Residence Card, you need to take the following steps:
Schedule Renewal: Before the expiration of the Permanent Residence Card, you should consider scheduling the card’s renewal. This should be done at least six months before the card expires.
Complete Necessary Forms: You need to complete the required forms for renewing the Permanent Residence Card. These forms may include the Permanent Residence Card Renewal Form (IMM 5444) and other relevant forms.
Provide Required Documents: You must provide documents such as a copy of your current Permanent Residence Card, identification documents, recent photos, etc., along with the renewal forms.
Pay Fees: To renew the Permanent Residence Card, you must pay the relevant fee. Information about the fee amount and payment method may be available on the official website of the Government of Canada or in a letter from the government.
Submit Application: After completing the forms, providing documents, and paying the fee, you must submit the renewal application to the relevant immigration office.
After submitting the application, you may need to attend an interview or provide additional information. After reviewing the submitted documents and information, if approved, your Permanent Residence Card will be renewed and sent to you. If your renewal application is rejected, the reasons for rejection and corrective measures will be communicated to you.
