Family Sponsorship

Many Canadian citizens and permanent residents are faced with the task with leaving loved ones behind upon immigration to Canada. For years, families have been separated in their home country while others start a new life in Canada. The Government of Canada is now allowing the dream of keeping family together to become a reality under its Family Class Sponsorship Class.

Canada’s Family Class Sponsorship programs are some of the best in the developed world, as the Canadian government vows to keep families together whenever possible.

Relationships that qualify for Family Class Sponsorship include:

  • Spouses and common-law partners
  • Parents and grandparents
  • Dependent children
  • Potential other relationships under certain Provincial Family Class Sponsorship programs

A Super Visa program is also available for parents and grandparents.

The Spousal Sponsorship program is a subsection of Family Class immigration. This program allows a Canadian citizen or permanent resident to sponsor a spouse or common-law partner for Canadian permanent residence.

The Canadian citizen or permanent resident (referred to as a “sponsor”) and the foreign national (referred to as the “sponsored person”) must be approved by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC). Upon approval, the sponsored person can receive a visa.
